Fabric Resiliences

  • Waterproof means that a material or product is completely impervious to water. Items labeled as waterproof are designed to prevent water from penetrating under any circumstances, even during heavy rain, submersion, or prolonged exposure to water.
  • Water-resistant refers to a material's ability to resist penetration by water to a certain extent, but not completely. Products labeled as water-resistant can handle some exposure to water, such as light rain or splashes, but they are not designed to withstand heavy or prolonged exposure to water.
  • Water-repellent is similar to water-resistant but generally indicates a higher level of water resistance. Water-repellent materials are usually treated with a special coating that repels water more effectively than standard water-resistant materials.
  • Windproof materials are designed to block the wind from passing through the fabric, protecting the wearer from wind chill and maintaining warmth in windy conditions.
